The Rich History of Thermotherapy

Thermotherapy has ancient roots, with practices dating back thousands of years. The Romans were pioneers in the development of public baths, known as "thermae," where they indulged in hot and cold baths as part of their daily routine. Similarly, the Japanese have a long tradition of using hot springs, or "onsen," for their therapeutic properties.

These ancient cultures understood the profound benefits of alternating hot and cold treatments. Today, modern science supports what these civilizations knew instinctively: thermotherapy can significantly enhance physical and mental well-being.

The Thermal Cycle: A Journey to Rejuvenation

Thermotherapy revolves around the concept of the thermal cycle. This cycle involves alternating between hot and cold treatments, which can provide a range of health benefits. Here’s how it works:

Heat therapy includes sessions in our hydrotherapy hot pool, sauna, or steam room, with temperatures ranging from 100 -104°F in the hot tub, 112 -115°F in the steam room and up to 175°F in the sauna. Sessions typically last for 10-15 minutes.

Cold therapy involves a quick dip in our cold plunge tub, where temperatures are maintained between 50-55°F. Exposure should typically last for 1-3 minutes, providing an invigorating contrast to the heat phase.

The relaxation phase is an important part of the thermotherapy cycle. After alternating between hot and cold treatments, take 10-15 minutes to rest in our comfortable lounging area.

Rest Phase

(Hot Tub, Sauna, Steam Room): Begin with a session in the hot tub, sauna, or steam room. The heat helps to open up pores, relax muscles, and increase circulation. It’s the perfect way to start the process of detoxification.

(Cold Plunge): After the heat, a quick dip in the cold plunge tub helps to close pores, reduce inflammation, and invigorate the body. The sudden change in temperature stimulates the immune system and enhances circulation.

Allow your body to rest and acclimate. This phase is crucial for reaping the full benefits of the thermal cycle.

Repeating this cycle several times can leave you feeling refreshed, revitalized, and ready to take on the world.

Benefits of Thermotherapy

Thermotherapy offers a myriad of benefits, making it a powerful tool for various individuals:

  • Stress Relief: The combination of heat and cold can help to calm the nervous system, reduce stress hormones, and promote a sense of relaxation.

  • Pain Relief: Heat therapy soothes sore muscles and joints, while cold therapy reduces inflammation and pain, making it ideal for those seeking muscle recovery after fitness or strenuous exercise

  • Improved Circulation: Alternating between hot and cold treatments boosts your blood circulation, which means more oxygen and nutrients are delivered efficiently throughout your body. This results in an overall feeling of vitality and well-being

  • Detoxification: Sweating in the heat helps to eliminate toxins from the body, while the cold phase supports lymphatic drainage.

  • Enhanced Athletic Performance: Athletes use thermotherapy to speed up recovery, reduce muscle soreness, and improve overall performance.
